Online & Social Media Code of Conduct

The Fluvanna Community Historical Society’s websites, services and social media channels aim to promote discussion, discovery, and debate about the many people, places, and events that have shaped our community’s history, the wider region and of the country as a whole. Our free online, interactive services offered on this website, our Virtual Meeting House and various communication channels are portals to connect from our community, Region and beyond with the Fluvanna Community Historical Society’s collections, scholarship, digital history projects, programing, and exhibitions as well as offer a space to share and highlight the important work of our community partners. Your use of these services, sites and channels is conditional upon your acceptance and observance of the Social Media Code of Conduct and Terms of Use.

The views expressed by our fans and followers are not our own and may not represent the views of the Fluvanna Community Historical Society (FCHS), its employees, trustees, members, board members or affiliates. These online communities are important ways for us to connect with our members and fellow history buffs, and to ensure that these remain positive spaces for sharing our mission, we ask you to follow a few guidelines as you interact in these spaces.

Be Respectful and Move the Conversation Forward:

FCHS will not tolerate posts including rude, hateful, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, or harassing comments, images, or videos. Posts containing content that could be offensive to others will be removed and may result in you being banned or blocked. You may not use FCHS’s website, services, Virtual Meeting House or any of its social media or communication channels for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by the Social Media Code of Conduct or the Terms of Use.

While we welcome and encourage lively discussion, debate, and diverse viewpoints, comments should move the conversation forward, rather than attack other users and their views. Be respectful, and please keep comments focused on the topic of the original post. Comments that are off-topic, or repeated across various posts, will likely be removed. In that same vein, please avoid making comments that advertise or promote yourself or others and avoid posting content that may infringe on others’ intellectual property.

On these platforms, comments may be published automatically and reviewed by FCHS after publication. While we review public comments on a regular basis, there may be times when inappropriate or offensive posts or comments that do not meet the Social Media Code of Conduct or Terms of Use may appear before they can be removed.

Value Privacy:

In order to protect the privacy of those using our social channels, please avoid posting any personal information, including email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses. Any posts including personal information may be removed.
