About the event

Join us for an enlightening educational event on June 15th at 9:30 AM, where we’ll dive into a talk regarding native plants, buffer zones and the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy’s "LakeScapes program." Discover the pivotal role of native plants and watershed-friendly living practices that sustain the health of Chautauqua Lake. We’ll also take a quick journey through time to uncover the rich history of our beloved Lake, with a special focus on the Fluvanna area.

The Bemis-Lear family is thrilled to host this event at their home, where attendees can experience, up close, the family's native bed, watershed-friendly garden. This mini oasis of native plants was designed with the help of the Watershed's Conservancy's "LakeScapes" program and is meant to provide food and habitat for pollinators, while avoiding the use of harmful pesticides. Plus, at the talk and tour, Carol and the team, will share how the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy can visit your property to help design a native bed, watershed-friendly garden for you. For more information about this topic, in advance of this Talk and Tour, click here.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for community members to engage, ask questions and voice concerns about our local environment. It’s a collaborative effort, proudly co-sponsored by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and Fluvanna’s United Neighbors (FUN), in partnership with the Fluvanna Community Historical Society (FCHS).

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener, environmental enthusiast or new to the topic, this event is open to all who wish to learn and contribute to the conversation.

(In case of rain, the event will be held indoors).
